Now that we had picked out the lot and the type of house we wanted to build (Winslow 2 - A Elevation); we had to pick out our options. One of the things I LOVE about Lennar is that "Everythings Included" - which means that when you walk through the model not EVERY SINGLE THING is an upgrade.
Some of the items that are included in the base price: hardwoods in foyer, dining, kitchen, eat in kitchen and hallways downstairs.; Pendant Lighting in kitchen, USB power station in kitchen, stainless steel appliances, iron balisters, recessed lighting in kitchen, granite counters, travertine backsplase, fireplace, baseboards throughout house and the garage is completely finished with baseboards! When we were picking out our choices, they were running a special with $15K of free upgrades ON TOP of all of the things you already get included in the base price! This enabled us to splurge a little ;)
We chose to add- hardwoods in formal living (office/playroom) and in the family room; outdoor living package (splurge) that includes pavers, firepit and additional landscaping; media closet (so we can keep our cable box/dvd player hidden); iron balisters upstairs in the 2 story entryway; under cabinet lighting for the kitchen cabinets; gas range; security system; single bowl undermount sink and additional cable/electrical outlet upstairs in master 60" off the ground so we can mount our TV.
We also picked out our exterior colors (siding, shake, vertical siding and shutters), kitchen cabinets, granite colors, hardwoods and carpet!
Our exterior colors are: Pebble for horizontal siding and shake shingles, Linen for vertical siding, Bucks County Stone and Black Shutters. We went with dark brown cabinets, St. Cecelia granite, 3" Forest Oak hardwoods and Oak Straw carpet.
After everything was picked out we waited......and waited....and finally got word that the permits were approved and obtained and construction was starting!!

Which lot to choose?
Before we decided on what development we wanted to live in, we checked out all of the available lots. We wanted something with a decent sized backyard, not extremely close to neighbors and with some privacy. Searching in the Charlotte area for something like this is...hard. And we almost didn't find it where we are building! The first time we went to the development they had no good (to us) lots available. They all backed up to a hill and had no backyard or your backyard looked into someone's windows. That's not what we were looking for. Luckily, we decided to drive back through with the Sales Rep and he told us they just released some lots the previous day. They are on a cul-de-sac and back up to woods. Umm yes!!
Once we started to check out the lots; we found out all of them on the cul-de-sac needed to have a crawl space, which isn't what we wanted. But, then my husband noticed one next to the cul-de-sac and it was a slab lot! It also had a great sized yard that backed up to woods!! Jackpot!
We paced it out to see how much yard we would have and it felt like the perfect amount! Enough to run around but not too much to take care of :) Bonus - there will be an easement of 20 ft on one side of us so it will be about 95-100 ft on one side before a house! Plus the lots next to us will be the last ones to sell; so our neighbors will be these huge boulders for now. Good thing they don't make too much noise ha!
Our first post!
Welcome to our little slice of the internet! I'm starting this blog to document our home building process with Lennar! We might continue the blog after we move in as a DIY/Lifestyle blog but, we'll get to that when the time comes!
We've decided to build with Lennar in the Charlotte area! We searched for awhile to find a development/land that we both loved. We're moving from Upstate New York so we're used to a lot of land and privacy which isn't very common in Charlotte - as you can imagine! But, we found one that's relatively close to work, bigger lots (we found the perfect one for us!!), and that's in our price range! Stay tuned for regularish updates on the building process!
